Material, UV Stability & Outdoor Durability

PV Labels manufactures solar labels, reflective labels, engraved placards, and metal signs using outdoor-rated material systems selected for photovoltaic and electrical installations. Our products are built for long-term readability on inverters, disconnects, raceways, combiner boxes, batteries, service equipment, electrical panels, and other solar PV identification points.

Depending on the product, PV Labels uses FLEXcon white vinyl label materials, clear protective overlaminate, Avery Dennison engineering-grade reflective film, Rowmark UltraGrave engraved acrylic, and aluminum sign materials. Each material is selected based on the installation environment, surface type, visibility requirement, and expected field exposure.

Standard White Solar Labels

Standard white PV labels are produced using FLEXcon white vinyl label material for outdoor solar and electrical identification. This material system is used for warning labels, compliance labels, equipment labels, and durable goods labeling.

  • FLEXcon white vinyl label material system
  • Outdoor-rated material for solar and electrical labeling
  • Permanent acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive
  • Compatible with conventional and UV ink systems
  • UL 969 recognized material component where applicable
  • Used for NEC solar labels, disconnect labels, raceway labels, inverter labels, and equipment labels

Reflective Solar Labels

Reflective PV labels use Avery Dennison engineering-grade beaded retroreflective film for improved visibility. Reflective labels are ideal for solar identification points where daytime and nighttime visibility are important.

  • Avery Dennison engineering-grade retroreflective film
  • Omni-directional reflective performance
  • ASTM D4956 Type I / EN-12899 RA1 performance
  • Permanent pressure-sensitive adhesive
  • Used for reflective solar labels, emergency identification, disconnect labels, and rapid shutdown labels

Engraved Solar Placards

Engraved solar placards are produced with Rowmark UltraGrave, a polymer-surfaced impact-modified acrylic designed for interior and exterior signage. Engraved placards are a strong option for permanent field marking, system maps, directories, and high-visibility equipment identification.

  • Rowmark UltraGrave engraved acrylic
  • Polymer-surfaced impact-modified acrylic
  • Laser or rotary engravable
  • Matte / satin finish options
  • RoHS compliant, PVC-free, halogen-free, and UL 94 HB rated
  • Used for engraved placards, system maps, directories, and permanent identification

Material & Durability FAQ

Are PV Labels UV stable?

PV Labels offers UV-rated and outdoor-rated solar labeling materials depending on the product type. Standard white solar labels, reflective labels, engraved placards, and metal signs are each built with material systems selected for solar and electrical environments.

What materials does PV Labels use?

PV Labels uses FLEXcon white vinyl material systems for standard solar labels, Avery Dennison engineering-grade reflective film for reflective labels, Rowmark UltraGrave for engraved placards, and aluminum materials for metal solar signs.

Which material is best for outdoor solar labels?

The best material depends on the installation. White vinyl labels are commonly used for standard NEC solar warning labels. Reflective labels are used when visibility is important. Engraved acrylic placards and aluminum signs are used for permanent field identification, system maps, directories, and harsh exterior environments.

Where are PV Labels products commonly installed?

PV Labels products are commonly installed on solar disconnects, inverters, combiner boxes, raceways, junction boxes, electrical panels, battery systems, service equipment, rapid shutdown equipment, and other photovoltaic system identification points.

Has pretty much what you need for most systems.

Posted by Wayne Alldredge on 13th Jan 2020

There are enough labels to support a basic system. if you have batteries and a critical loads panel, or more than one conduit, you'll probably need a few more labels. Luckily, I had some extras on hand from another label kit and could address the inspector's concerns on the spot. You may need to get a steel stamping kit (the kind that has letters and numbers that you hit with a hammer) because some jurisdictions do not allow printing and no one I know allows Sharpie writing. I would say that a better way to sell the kits would be to have a "2014 standard" and a "2014 large with battery" kit that has more red reflective conduit and panel labels and DC system specific labels.
